Should outdoor playground sports set for fun rather than for competition
Playing sports benefits people tremendously. Joining physical activities not only helps one to relax the mind and keep healthy, but it trains his character as well. Men are born with the gifts of swimming and climbing, these gifts are not given for no reason. We should value our ability in playing sports. Nowadays, a huge number of youngsters are enthusiastically taking part in different sports activities. Children now also take an active part in playing sports in outdoor playground with their parents or their peers. However, in the eyes of most parents, safety lies first, so they insist on that children should play sports for fun instead of for competition. As far as I'm concerned, this is an extreme viewpoint.
To begin with, most children play sports because it is fun. In the outdoor playground or in the courtyard, children's laughter can be heard every now and then when they are playing sports. Evidently, they enjoy these moments. This is their temporary break from pressure of schoolwork when they get to participate in their favorite activities. No matter what kind of games they are, whether football, basketball, tennis, or some other sports, they adore running around and feeling as free as birds. According to a survey, 7 out of 10 school-age youngsters prefer to play sports in their leisure time. This reveals how powerfully appealing sports are to children.
But I still hold the view that having the opportunity to participate in a sporting contest may be beneficial to kids. As a matter of fact, in order to become a well-balanced person, one has to cultivate strong willpower and the ability to compete and cooperate at an early age. In outdoor playground, children should be energetic enough and passionate enough when they are invited to join competitions. It is an effective method to help children grow up, realizing what success is, and how it feels when they fail after all the effort. In most primary schools, sports meeting are held every semester. This also indicates that contests really benefit children in many ways.
Moreover, competitive sports also helps children discover more of their natural talents and some find they have potential to become professional athletes in the future. A person's gift for a particular sport may show up in early childhood. An outstanding performance during a match or contest is likely to attract the attention of a coach. Thus, he may be fortunate enough to be selected as a member of a professional team that competes in major sporting events. It is true that most world-famous gold medalists in the Olympic Games were first discovered this way. Outdoor playground provide quite a number of sports for kids to practice, I think parents should take the chance to find out whether your kids have talent in sporting.
All in all, I believe that children should be encouraged to join in various sporting events. In their effort to meet the challenges that sport and teamwork provide, they can train themselves both spiritually and physically. So I hold the view that outdoor playground should not only be a place for fun, but also be a place for competitions.
