New Entrant in the IPTL - Japan Warriors
One team to watch out for this season is The Japan Warriors. The Japan Warriors are the new and the fifth franchise of the IPTL. The franchise have picked up the Indian doubles star, Leander Paes. The ever-green Indian tennis ace had opted to stay away from IPTL last year, questioning it's sustainability and transparency. But this year, he agreed to be a part of the league and roped in by the Japan Warriors. The other members of the team includes the world champions Maria Sharapova and Daniela Hantuchova, Japanese Superstar Kei Nishikori, Japan's No. 1 women's player Kurumi Nara, the fiery legend Marat Safin and the hard-hitting Vasek Pospisil and Lucas Pouille. The team is looking very promising with just the perfect balance of experienced and young players. The Japanese leg of the tournament will be played in Tokyo from December 2nd to 4th.
International Premier Tennis League comes back again, with much more paparazzi than the last year. Founded by Indian ace Tennis player, Mahesh Bhupati, to counter the ever increasing demand of quality Tennis in Asia, IPTL was the huge success last year, in its debut season. Many biggies from the Tennis world had come to Asia to participate in IPTL, in its debut season last year. This season even more International players are coming to add an extra zing of excitement and fame to IPTL. This new season will have five teams. Joining the four existing teams, Micromax Indian Aces, UAE Royals, Singapore Slammers and Philippine Mavericks, is The Japan Warriors. Interestingly, the 19-days power-packed tournament will kick off in Japan itself. One leg of the tournament, from December 10-12, will be played in India also. Delhi's Indira Gandhi Indoor kids playground Stadium will host the Micromax Indian Aces home matches, against the rest four teams.
The league will see some of the best names in the Tennis like, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Sania Mirza, Carlos Mayo and Ana Ivanovic, coming to Asian Countries, to play alongside the domestic players as a team. The International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) brings together the current champions, tennis legends and the upcoming talent in a format that's never been seen before. This is first-of-its-kind initiative in the history of Tennis, where the sport of Tennis, which is essentially an individual game will be played as a team. The league combines the world-class sports and entertainment in a such an exciting format that it keeps the fans completely engrossed.
